Where is La Cerdanya?
La Cerdanña or Cerdanya is a region of Catalonia in the Pyrenees, between Spain and France. It is surrounded by high mountains and numerous valleys, as well as being crossed by the Segre River, the main tributary of the Ebro River that rises in France.
It has numerous villages that today still preserve traditional architecture, as well as a large number of historical monuments.
A Little History of La Cerdanya
The Cerdanya has its origins in a Teutonic movement that broke the chain of the Pyrenees and that made the valley was configured at an average altitude of about 1,200 meters.
In the Treaty of the Pyrenees, in 1659 between the Kingdoms of Spain and France, the territory of the Cerdanya region was divided into two: the High Cerdanya which is administered by France, and the Low Cerdanya which is administered by Spain.

What to do in Cerdanya?
– Skiing in La Masella. La Masella is one of the best known ski resorts in the Pyrenees. Its main feature is the high quality and large amount of snow during the winter season and that 90% of the slopes are facing north.
– Skiing in La Molina. This station is located in the municipality of Alp and has approximately 71 skiable kilometers with 68 slopes. It is a good place for first time skiers as more than half of the slopes are easy.
– Pay a visit to the village of Llívia. It is a municipality of only 1,500 inhabitants, with a great tourist attraction. You can visit the castle with the tower of Bernat de So, the churches, the Roman Forum, or visit the Esteve Pharmacy, a medieval pharmacy that is considered the oldest pharmacy in Europe that is still preserved, now converted into a museum.
